Peppin Merinos and White Suffolks Sheep

Sustainably breeding and raising dual purpose merinos for top-quality wool and carcase.

Our Merinos are bred from a carefully developed bloodline; our ewes with a mix of the Westerdale (95%) and Lachlan (5%) bloodlines, joined with our own White Suffolk rams.

We run 24,000 merino ewes based on the Peppin Merino bloodline which provides a consistently high-quality wool fibre and meat product.

Our ability to control the entire breeding process with our own ewes and rams, along with the premium raising conditions on our farm, ensures that Rhodes Pastoral will continue to be one of WA’s premier livestock producers for years to come.

Ram Breeding

At Rhodes, we run a nuclease of 1,200 merino ewes to breed our own merino rams – buying top genetics from Westerdale – to maintain quality and control the consistent fulfillment of our own breeding requirements.

We have a White Suffolk stud (started in 2017) to breed terminal rams for our operations. These rams are bred for their fast growth rates, excellent meat/sheer force, high fertility/vacuntity and productivity – resulting in lambing rates of 130-140%.

Good pasture & practices are the key to success

We have invested serious time and effort into the quality of our pastures and feed – which results in merinos which produce large amounts of meat and wool.

Fed with sustainable feed mixes grown on our own pastures developed specifically for animal health and increased weight and watered on pure, desalinated water, we breed healthy, happy and top-quality animals.

From refining our genetics to developing our pastures, we have a holistic approach – the results of which you can see in the quality of our sheep.

Animal Welfare

In line with our sustainable approach and long-term focus for our operations, we have ensured that our animal welfare processes are second to none.

All our animals are watered on pure, clean water, fed with specially-developed grain mix and grazed on extensive, quality pastures. Our natural West Australian environment and clean farm operations keep our animals healthy and comfortable –  and we are always improving.
