Our Inaugural Open Day was a success with more than 90 industry professionals attending the event. With both the Farm Weekly and Countryman publishing articles on the day.
Matt Keady CEO welcomed the guests and giving an overview of the establishment of the Boree Park White Suffolk Stud. He thanked his team and guest speakers for the work in preparing for the Open Day.
Michael Wright Farm Manager introduced the guests speakers and highlighted the positive side of the sheep industry and its growth in the future.
Shearwell Australia’s Industry liaison manager Brad McCormick, present guests with gift bags and door prizes of an electronic tag reader and two eID taggers. Brad discussed the implementation and process of EID tags and highlighted what the future for the sheep industry will look like when eID is made mandatory.
Sheep Genetic Manager Peta Bradley covered the importance of ASBV’s explaining that ASBV’s are essentially it is a label for sheep and what is going on inside, focusing on the eating quality in lamb. Peta compared the Boree Park White Suffolk stud to other White Suffolks in Sheep Genetics and other animals in the terminal database, showing that the stud is above average in post-weaning weight and lean meat yeild.
Andrew Longbottom, DPIRD Senior Biosecurity Officer Livestock, discussed the mandatory implementation of eID’s explaining the eID system and its operations.
Boree Park Stud showcased its lamb produce with Chef Tim Greaves of Foraged Fire Foods, serving Slow-Cooked Lamb with Rosemary & Red Wine Pies, Roast Lamb Shoulder with Gravy and Herb Slaw Rolls, and Grilled Lamb Skewers with Lemon, Garlic & Tahini.
Zoetis Services and Virbac Australia Animal Health displayed some of their products and provided door prizes.
